Postage to northern ireland

Sorry this is a bit of a rant.

I asked a seller recently how much postage would be for a dress I was watching.

I live in northern ireland.

Her reply was that she only posted to the uk!

I am sorry but northern Ireland is part of the uk ( politics - aside). Our mail is delivered by royal mail and should not cost extra!!! It may take slightly longer but royal mail special delivery still arrives the next day. Normal services are generally good too.

In future could I ask all sellers that a BT postcode is in the uk and not to charge more or be ignorant and see the word Ireland and think it is part of a different country.

Rant over

It really is a bug bear of mine.

Oh I get what you're saying. I'm Scottish and I get really bored of people asking if I have an English passport. No I don't, and nor do you or anybody else.

It doesn't bother me if the person isn't British, it is a bit of a difficult distinction but if you're British, it's just unbelievably thick.

Chablis She's being an idiot, I post eBay stuff to NI all the time, same cost as the rest of the UK. Even couriered a pushchair recently. If someone gives me the money, makes no difference to me what address I write on the parcel. I am amazed at some people's ignorance.

FarloRigel · 11/12/2011 17:22

Know how you feel - I'm from NI too and that always used to bug me when I lived there. Now I live in the Highlands of Scotland and am told that's 'not in the UK' either Xmas Confused ! Sigh...

bubble2bubble · 11/12/2011 17:24

Oh don't get me started...

I usually get round this by not putting Northern Ireland in the address, just the town and postcode Xmas Grin so no questions asked..

The really annoying one is when it's a courier delivery and they charge the earth for "offshore" deliveries (when it is something that could be bunged in the post for a few quid)

Am tempted to send informative (cheeky) email back informing her of what countries actually make up the uk!

It is the height of ignorance and IMO a lack of simple knowledge of the country you are from.

I don't have an English passport either but it does say gb and northern Ireland.

I always chose not to buy from those who won't post to ni or scottish Scottish highlands and islands.

The other day I was given a postage quote of £135!! To post by royal mail!! Seriously.

Wouldn't it be better in future if you just asked for postage "within the UK"? At least save you gnashing your teeth at ignorance?

Must admit it always impresses me that postage isn't extra to NI, though.
