Buyer saying the product has been used when it hasn't?

I sold a print cartridge on Ebay recently which I'd bought from Asda, opened and then realised was the wrong one for my printer. The cartridge was described as packaging open but cartridge still sealed.

The buyer has sent me a message saying the cartridge was open and empty. Which I know it wasn't.

So, would you ask for them to return the cartridge (postage was cheap as small enough to go as standard letter) and see what comes back (if they send another used, empty one are there any markings/serial no's which will prove it's not from the box I sent?)? Or just refund them what they paid (is less than a fiver, and Ebay will probably take buyers side if we end up in dispute anyway won't they!)?

It sounds like someone trying it on tbh. I would send a polite message back asking them to return it and stating that once you have checked that the serial no matches that of the one you sent you will refund.

I very much doubt you will hear from them again.

Thanks, I'll try that. Are there serial no's on them?

Fingers crossed, yesGrin

I have sold a couple of HP ones in the past and they had serial nos, but then they are a lot more expensive......

Hopefully it will just put the wind up him and he will bugger off.

Hope so...it doesn't fit my printer so I know it's not been used Grin

Tell them to send it back in the same condition it was received - and once you have verified your security markings you will refund. (they don't know you didn't mark it with a UV pen or whatever)

Hopefully this should stop them returning their own empty cartridge to you and keeping your new one.
