I sold an item at 7pm on Saturday night. So, the only logical day i could post it since then was Monday. I posted it 2nd class, recorded on Monday afternoon.

have had an ebay message asking "where's my item, I won it on saturday why's it not here" FFS

Pmsl that's so funny. Had you clicked the posted button so they knew it was on it way?

Saltire · 24/11/2011 12:49

No, I always forget to click that Blush.

I ahve jsut checked the royal mail tracking number and it still says "being processed for delivery". However the 2 other items which I posted the same day have both arrived!

Now last time this happened, (not an ebay thing) the receiver of the recorded letter I was sending tried to claim they hadn't got it, and it was showing as being "processed" and it turns out that the postie just stuck the letter through the letter box and didn't get a signature.

This seems to be happening more often - I have had 2 recorded items this week that I wasn't asked to sign for, they were in the middle of a bundle so I guess the postie didn't see them.

FabbyChic · 24/11/2011 18:32

Why send second class when the buyer pays the postage? Ridiculous really.

sarahtigh · 26/11/2011 21:47

I send everything second class standard parcels or by courier which ever is cheapest, most people appreciate this as have well over 4.9 for both postage costs and speed of delivery

your buyer just not realistic if posted monday most second class takes 3 days so should arrive thursday

While mostly i agree with you Fabby, i don't this time as higher postage costs than necessary really annoy me, 99p items first class signed for...well to be honest i probably would not buy, most folks do not need the stuff yesterday and are happy to wait some like OP's buyer are PITA but if not over postage would be PITA about something else!

Saltire · 28/11/2011 10:15

She hasn't got back to me again, however, the tracking number is still showing as "being processed through the system". Either it is lost, or she's got it and the postie didn't try to get a signature and just shoved it through the letter box

This seems to be happening a lot doesn't it? Is it to do with the time of year, lazy postmen or unscrupulous buyers?

hermionestranger · 28/11/2011 11:03

I send everything second, I've come to the conclusion that first gets there absolutely no quicker.

Week before last sent several items second, they arrived saturday morning!

As for not getting signatures, our postie never , ever does. I regularly find my parcels lying under a bush or in the blue bin or sometimes with a neighbour, never do I have a card saying where my items are!

fergoose · 28/11/2011 11:15

I think it is both lazy postmen and unscrupulous buyers to be honest.

I don't know about you but I seem to have so many different posties now, all at different times of day, some are brilliant, others never bother to get a signature. I don't know if the rounds are bigger and they have to rush, or they use more temporary temporary staff.

Add to that lots of people are skint at the moment, apparently some target sellers who don't send with a signature. I always write on my listings a signature will be required for delivery on pricier items, don't know if it acts as a deterrent or not, but worth a try.

Mind you I have had a courier sign for my parcel herself then put it in the wheelie bin with my rubbish so my order ended up in landfill as by the time I found out what had happened the bin had been emptied.

Saltire · 28/11/2011 11:29

When our usual postie is off we get one who not only sticks recorded things through the letterbox, he forges the customers signature. I know this as I received a nasty latter via recorded , it was just shoved through the letterbox. When I checked the online signature thing he'd written my name is a handwriting way on it! So in that case the sender of the letter paid for recorded and the postie signed it instead.
3 times he did it with recorded things for us

that's appalling - did you report him? I didn't think they were allowed to sign on your behalf?

perceptionreality · 28/11/2011 11:47

I've checked the feedback of the buyer in my case and I can't see anything in their feedback that would suggest they are not honest. I'm really shocked by some of the stories here tbh. Surely it's possible the post workers themselves steal stuff?

fergoose · 28/11/2011 11:51

Yes it is possible for goods to be stolen or lost - but I do think it is quite rare. But you do see stories of posties who have garages full of undelivered post so it clearly does happen.

The buyers feedback wouldn't tell you though would it, sellers can't leave neg feedback, nor can they leave neg comments on a positive rating either.

perceptionreality · 28/11/2011 16:48

I checked the feedback they had left for other people and nothing looked dodgy - I sometimes think you can tell something about the person you've sold to that way. The guy at the post office said he'll look into it for me if it hasn't got there by tomorrow.

Saltire · 29/11/2011 08:01

Spoke too soon. She orginally contacted me the day after the item ended to say she hadn't received it.
So I ebay meessaged her back and said it had been posted blah blah.
Today I get a really stroppy message in CAPITALS (so shouty) saying "I've never heard from you, where is my item" Shock. I thought she'd received it since she hadn't been in touch again.
In fact she has sent the same message 4 times one after the other

I guess it has either
A- gone missing
B- been delivered but no signature taken so she's chancing her luck to get the rmoney back
C- knicked by someone else

I think my parcel has turned up today - it says delivered and the name signed matches the person who bought it on ebay. So hopefully that's the end of that. I posted the item last Thursday and it arrived today. If they leave negative feeback for something beyond my control I will be so cross.
