Sellers - would you accept refund to keep your good rep?

I'm new to selling and have come up with my 1st refund request. Sold a uniform as used and the buyer claims its not like another (new) one her friend had. Claims washing has ruined it and its too stiff to wear even though it folded OK in the photo!

I hadn't realised the buyer pays returns postage so declined saying the item is perfectly wearable. This was rejected so offered partial refund (there were 3 parts to the uniform).

Buyer has now opened a not as described case and now claimed another item needs fixing.

She also won then cancelled another part of the uniform with another seller. My guess is she has bought/ been given the uniform elsewhere and so on principle I've now offered 50% refund if she returns 1st item to me.

Have any sellers had Ebay uphold their disputes over 2nd hand items? Or is it better to give in just to keep a good reputation? The sums aren't great (less than £20) but I don't want to think of people playing the system.

no you have to give a full refund if the buyer returns the item, you can't have the item back and give only half the money back

you can't buy a good reputation though by being blackmailed, nor should you be a victim of feedback extortion

you could mind you do everything they want and refund and let them keep the item and still receive a negative feedback

If I were you I would tell her to send everything back to you in the condition in which it was sent out - and you will refund in full

Partial refunds just get messy in my opinion.

Ebay will always support buyers, just give her a refund and have done with it.

but never refund until you receive your items back

Thanks, wise words. Was offering 50% as she initially claimed only 1 of the 3 items in the sale were faulty. Will let me head rule my heart and put emotions to one side.

I gave the buyer a positive feedback after she paid but before the dispute. Shall leave my feedback until later next time!

it makes no odds whether you wait to leave feedback - you can't leave a neg comment for the buyer anymore so you have no leverage there
