Ebay buyer - WWYD?

I've listed a voucher for a 10 person chauffeured champagne punting trip on Ebay - put it on with a starting price of £100. I stated what the normal price is for this tour and that the proceeds are to go to a charity close to my heart with a bit of info on said charity.

So, a fella messages me and offers me £80 for it. No problem with him trying but I replied that the best I could do was £100 BIN given that the cost of the tour is normally £225 and that this voucher has the added advantage of being open from now til next Spring.

Next thing I know he's responded by asking me to call him on his mobile.

Now, I know it's not to invite me out to dinner... :o I can only assume that he wants to buy away from ebay. And if he is, I'm a bit, well, unsure. I don't want to lose a potential sale of the voucher (not only is it for a good cause, it's also no use to me, I'm sh-scared of water, I hate Cambridge and I don't drink champagne!), but I don't feel comfortable about this... but I can't really think why I'm not comfortable with it.

Has anyone any experience of this sort of approach? What can go wrong?

Just ignore him, block him if her persists, someone else will snap it up.

Of course I realise that I don't have to ring the number, Semper, and I have a buyer for the voucher via friends should it not sell on Ebay. However they're only buying for the sake of donating to the charity rather than a wild interest in punting (I have sensible friends), so a buyer who actually wants it and who will offer the same/similar price seems preferable. Hence the questions.

Respond through the messaging bit, don't ring him unless you can do it via a withheld number. Some people are so bloody pushy.

Do you have many people watching the auction? How many days are left on it?

If there are watchers the chances are you'll get someone bid on it through the correct channels and that way you'll be covered more so than if you strike a deal outside of ebay.

don't do an off eBay sale, you risk losing your account

And make sure you post with a signature, I think recorded isn't sufficient for a voucher, so it may need to be special delivery

I always sell off eBay if I can. Their fees, plus paypal fees make selling most things on there not worth while.

Just ignore him or reply to tell him to bid if he wants it, but you will not be taking it off eBay for a private sale

Just say that because it's for charity you need to be able to provide the auction details later on so youare only selling it on ebay.

Fergoose is right, if you are sending valuables such as money, vouchers or jewellery it has to be sent Special Delivery which is quite a lot more than Recorded - so change your P&P if you need to so you aren't out of pocket.

As for buyer, I'd not ring but send him an ebay message to say that you're happy to contact him via ebay messaging only as you wouldn't want to do anything to risk your seller account and if he keeps hassling then I'd block him from your auctions.

Don't call him.

For a start, when you listed it you agreed with ebay that you would not sell it off ebay to someone who used ebay to contact you.
