Well I sold a load of stuff on ebay last sunday and stated payment within 48 hours. Most paid quickly but 3 buyers didn't. I sent invoices on wednesday and thursday mornings, but nothing. So last night I opened cases as it had been over 4 days and still no contact from any of them.

So this morning I get a rude email from one of them saying she couldn't belive I've opened a case, what's my problem, the reason she hadn't paid sooner was because she waits until she has a few things to pay for and does them at once, you've got your money now etc. Confused Looked at paypal and it's been paid with an echeque which won't clear until next week so at least 11 days after the auction ended.

I replied saying I'd heard nothing at all after 2 invoices and had stated payment within 48 hours blah de blah de blah so opened a case. I explained it has no negative effect on her unless she doesn't pay so not to take it personally.

She's now replied saying she couldn't pay because she'd been ill and been taken to hospital (forgotten her original reason for not paying? Hmm) and ebay says you're not supposed to open cases that early. Confused She also said I could refund the money and keep my item if I wanted.

Clearly this woman doesn't know what she's talking about, can't keep up with her own lies and is going to leave me negative feedback when I've done nothing wrong.

So can I close the case after 4 days from opening the case as her echeque won't have cleared, or should I try to cancel the transaction so she can't leave a negative? Would cancelling it automatically stop her payment or would I need to stop it first?

Yes you can close this case if you wish to,I sell on ebay so I know what you mean. If you wish to cancel the transaction you will both have to agree to it,she may really want the item.
What I don't get is if ebay said you can't open cases early why did they let you?

LadyWithNoManors · 20/05/2011 16:32

I usually give people a week to pay and then send them a message. So you probably did jump the gun a bit imo.
I would cancel the transaction as this will stop her from leaving a neg.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 20/05/2011 17:25

I would cancel the transaction as well. It might cost you a few pence in fees but it would be worth it to prevent getting a neg.
I state clearly that payment is required within three days, but if they want more time to pay they can as long as they let me know within three days.

Im with the seller here, i sell lots of items and hate it when people sit there bidding in the final few minutes to get the item then dont bother to pay for it, i always give 3 days from auction ending, but the 4th day if ive not heard anything i open a case too, it changed recently it used to be 7 days after the item had ended but now its 4.They expect us to post it out super quick and be judged on it but nothing for the people who take a week and a non payment case to cough up. Definatly cancel the transaction if you can, you can check if her payment has been stopped by checking your items sold list, it will say either payment made or payment cancelled if you hover over the pound sign.

saoirse86 · 20/05/2011 19:06

I had stated clearly that buyers had 48 hours to pay so I'd given an extra 2 days before opening the case.

I'll cancel it then.

Bring back negative feedback for buyers!!!

Not been on eBay for a while, so you can't leave neg for buyers now? That's shocking!!!

southeastastra · 21/05/2011 09:58

it's a buyers market now, we got a neg yesterday and no word that the buyer wasn't happy at all!

it's ridiculous

Squirrelsmum · 21/05/2011 10:14

I have a shop on eBay, I send an invoice off once they have bought, then give them 5 working days before sending off a second invoice stating they have 24hours to pay, if they haven't paid in that time I open a dispute. Most of my stuff it BIN and most people are pretty good at paying as soon as they have bought. In over 2000 sales I have only opened about 10 non payer disputes, but I find that usually once it gets to that stage I can forget about the sale and they aren't really interested.

The feedback system sucks, No you can't leave a neg for buyers anymore so I will not leave feedback if I feel they warrant a neg, and block them as a buyer.

saoirse86 · 21/05/2011 10:29

I got a negative a while ago when I sold a phone. The buyer left the negative feedback without contacting me first saying the camera didn't work. It turned out he hadn't read the instructions and didn't realise you had to use the buttons on the side to use the camera. When I explained it to him he still refused to retract the neg and ebay refused too! Shock

I'd done nothing wrong, sent something in perfect working order and because he chose not to read the instructions I get the neg! How annoying is that?!

Occasionally I've left a positive and then written that they were a terrible buyer etc in capitals with *'s or something! I know it doesn't make much sense but still!

As soon as paypal got involved I sort of fell out of favour with easy.
I still buy from them but rarely sell as had lots of hassle with paypal.
Sold some Goods £145. Buyer received then 2 months down the rd buyer wanted a refund and got one and still as my fucking goods.

taylor74 · 21/05/2011 10:33

I meant eBay not easy

saoirse86 · 21/05/2011 10:35

That's ridiculous Taylor!

She was meant to send the stuff back and she never did.
She was giving me different tracking numbers but I still never got it.
So I wont sell anymore on there worth the hassle.
Paypal stinks end of

PinotGrigiosKittens · 21/05/2011 11:58

I started selling a month or so ago and it's such a pita I've stopped. Hated it.
