Tomorrow I plan to list my very first thing on eBay - pair of snow boots bought for DD in winter but never worn as too tight (probably not the best time of year but never mind)
Could you help with a few basic queries?

  1. Should you always send Recorded Delivery and factor it into the P&P
  2. Is it normal to get no bids at all on your items?
  3. Did the verifying of Paypal account just now - it said some accounts may not accept direct debits. I used a small savings account with about £20 in it as was too nervous to put my main bank a/c details in and hoped to build up a wee bit of savings in this account by selling stuff. Do you think this type of account will be OK for the verification?
  4. If someones buys something do they pay via Paypal, it goes into my Paypal account and then I can just transfer it to my bank a/c?
Any words of wisdom appreciated Grin

  1. - No, just ask the PO for proof of posting (they will write buyers postcode on your receipt) Keep the receipt.
  1. Yes, if you are trying to sell snow boots in May. Hmm
  1. If it's a normal bank account yes. My paypal goes into my NW savings account.
  1. Yes. You can transfer all or just some on it whenever you want.

I dont send recorded deliv, just keep proof of postage from post office when I send

yes no bids is common

Dont see why that account wont be okay, but make sure you dont get stung for fees from that account after you've sold item

yes its just a transfer to your a/c

Take good pictures!

Hi, am no expert but started selling some childrens clothes a couple of months ago.

  1. I always send items standard 2nd class. Not recorded but do get a reciept from post office.
  2. Yip, quite normal to get no bids. Have sold half of what I've listed, about 16 sales.
  3. & 4. Not sure about your account, but think Paypal will let u know when setting up if suitable. My money stays in Paypal and have savings account to transfer into.
Good Luck.

Hmmm, maybe snow boots not the best thing to start with then Blush
Cyb - what do you mean 'stung by fees' - is there something I need to watch out for?
