Why can I only leave positive feedback for this ebayer?

The person who won an item I was selling decided they know longer wanted it the next day Angry. Anyway, luckily it sold with second chance offer.

Ebay is still prompting me to leave feedback for the original buyer, but will only allow me to leave a positive feedback. I obviously don't want to do that as I could have lost out on the sale and plus I feel they messed me about. Why is this?

Sellers can only leave +
It sucks.
Don't leave any at all if you don't want to leave +

I think sellers cannot give negative feedback to any buyer. The positive/negative feedback is only for buyers to give to sellers now. Can you leave neutral? Or leave "positive" but make it clear what happened in your actual comment?

It wont even let me leave a neutral. I just feel reluctant to leave a positive with an actual comment as they only had a score of 3 (which was 100%) and don't want to bump their score up iyswim.

Yes it sucks that sellers can only leave a +! I'll just leave no comment (even though a negative with a comment would have made me feel better - childish I know).

Yes they changed this a couple of years ago so sellers could only leave positive feedback for buyers.
Think it is very wrong :(

I don't get it either. What's the point in giving buyers any feedback if it can only be positive? Confused

In the past I have left positive with something like:

AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MESSED ME ABOUT/DIDN'T PAY

something like that so it stands out a bit.

WildhoodChunder · 14/04/2011 17:45

How odd - does anyone know why Ebay changed it? Has anyone contacted them to complain? It makes the feedback meaningless, surely? How can you avoid selling to dodgy buyers?

Pancakeflipper · 14/04/2011 17:49

Do leave feedback. As Saoirse says make the actual comment negative. People do read the comments especially on those with not much history.

sixlostmonkeys · 14/04/2011 18:52

if you leave a negative comment it can be removed.

has anyone complained to ebay about this? - yes, a few 100 thousand probably :)

WildhoodChunder · 14/04/2011 20:29

I kinda meant has anyone on here complained to them, and knew what their explanation was... But I may add an email to one of the 100 thousand. :)

sixlostmonkeys · 14/04/2011 20:40

their explanation is that buyers felt held to ransom by sellers who would give a retalitory neg and so would not leave a neg for fear of this. Ebay want feedback to be a true reflection of a buyer's experience.
The best thing to do is leave no feedback at all for a poor buyer (no point in adding to their count) but by opening unpaid item disputes, a buyer becomes restricted if they accumulate too many strikes.

My set preferences catch quite a few blocked buyers now, who have received too many unpaid item strikes, and it saves me a lot of trouble (it's much easier than having to look through each possible buyer's fb.)

southeastastra · 14/04/2011 20:50

so annoying we got one where the bloke had opened a dispute without telling us the item didn't arrive (italy), he escalated it straight away - we would have refunded if he'd just asked without opening the dispute (which made refunding impossible as per paypal's shite system)

he then accussed us of sending him an email with a virus. was really odd.

he deserved a neg for being a twatty knob yet we can say nothing to warn others
