Just to run a little problem by you all - sold something yesterday on ebay, its clearly stated on my ad that I dont accept cheques, cash etc and payment is ONLY by paypal.

Buyer has now contacted me stating she has "a problem" with her paypal account and can she pay me with a postal order. As I live in Ireland and she lives in the UK, this is no good to me as I wont be able to cash a sterling postal order here.

I mailed her back yesterday stating that it clearly states I only accept paypal payment and can she let me know asap when she can pay me with paypal! Nothing back from her yet!

How long would you give before doing a "second chance offer" to the under bidder??? Feel really narked by this buyer -she has 100% positive feed back as I do, and I just want to be paid!!

No idea what the official ebay rules are on this. You've stated in the listing that it's PayPal only and your buyer isnt abiding by this. Personally I'd give them til tomorrow to respond and then either relist or sell to the second highest bidder if they're still interested.

Thanks Tidey! Its just really annoying, especially as I got quite a good price for the item!! Angry

I'd leave it a day or 2 then contact her again.

I had problems with my PP account last weekend which I had no control over and it could have potentially taken a few days to get full access to my account again. As it was, it was all back to normal in 2 or 3 days. If she has good feedback then I'd give her the benefit of the doubt and wait a couple of days.

Thanks also mogsO - I might email her tonight and say that if she thinks its just a temporary problem she will be able to get around, then I am prepared to wait a couple of days etc. Season of goodwill coming etc etc...

If they are in Eire, can they pay you by bank transfer - safer and cheaper for you than paypal...

LaurieScaryCake · 02/11/2010 15:36

If you only sold it yesterday then you need to give her 7 days to pay anyway. She must have it sorted by then.

classydiva · 02/11/2010 18:08

Buyers do not get 7 days to pay, they get as long as is stated by the seller.

Open a non paying bidder dispute on day 4, you get the option to close it four days after that.

LaurieScaryCake · 02/11/2010 22:10

I was wrong - unless it's on 'buy it now plus immediate payment' then buyers have up to 8 days to pay.

If they don't pay within 4 days you can open a dispute and then they have a further 4 days to pay - so 8 days in total.

explanation on ebay here

Thanks v much Classsy and LaurieS - I emailed the buyer earlier on today and asked if her paypal "problem" was likely to be resolved soon. She came back and said unlikey to be resolved in the near future and to go ahead and offer to the under bidder, which I have done. So hopefully thats that!

(From my reading of the ebay guidelines, you can open a dispute with the buyer as early as 4 days after the sale and then the buyer has an additional 4 days to pay.)

That's right Serendipity - that's how I read it.

Glad you got it somewhat resolved Smile - what a pain that woman was.
