How hard is it to start a successful eBay business?

DH works in a pub but for ages we have talked about setting up our own eBay business. He phoned me earlier to say that some druggy threatened to beat him up on the way home for not letting his dog stand on the table?! We already have a ds and plan ttc soon for another dc. He loves his job but every now and then something like this happens and it worries me sick!

We would probably need to earn at least 16k per year to cover mortgage, bills, food etc. DH already works 48 hours per week and certainly isn't afraid of hard work, and I have the business brain.

Can anyone give some advice or tell me whether this is worth pursuing any further, and what are the best sort of items to sell? Any help greatly appreciated!

Its not easy, dh and i have both tried and failed Sad, e-bay fee's and pay-pal fee's are so high now that its harder to make proffit. We were hoping dh could give up his job but we found it imposible to find find a product that would make us enough money.

No! no difference to any business.

£16k???? is low for income.

Dont forget you need assetts, you need money to buy yr items and any capital invest. Accountants/Tax/VAT overheads etc Banks arent keen to lend on a dream.

You need to run a business with e-bay option.

Once you get negative/neutral feedback a few times you can be pulled and yr business ruined - read the forums on e-bay its happening!

Never put all your eggs in one basket! You need ESP for any business - you need to be business savy too. In my experience people have no concept of Profit.

We run a business and god its hard, 2 steps back, 1 step forward. Staff, machinery etc all nightmares. We work all hours its not fun and run a farm.

Ebay is a marketing toy. You need the service/product first not the otherway around.
