Bought item, damaged in transit - do i have to return it for a refund?

I bought a lovely little table and one of the struts has broken. It was described as rock solid and perfect so it may have been damaged in transit. The cost of return means that I would be seriously out of pocket. Table cost £25, postage was £15, if I post it back it will be a further £10.

Is the seller only obliged to return my £25 - which means I will have spent £25 to not have a table Confused

Was it insured? Special delivery or something?

It was couriered by DHL so no idea if that includes insurance

It might be worth checking.

the seller has to refund you the full amount paid ie 25 + 15.
A good seller will refund the return postage too.
Contact them and see what they say. They should be covered for items damaged in transit providing they packaged it well.
