Periods: Is on and off unusual?

I've had an ED for about a year. It was diagnosed in June as Anorexia and it was about then that my weight was lowest (probably a BMI of about 17.5 or 18). Now I think my BMI has gone up a point or so, although I'm struggling to eat enough still.
My periods basically tapered off but still came regularly from April to July. I had an irregular bleed in the middle of July and then skipped August completely. Sept and Oct were regular and healthier feeling. Now I have missed one (3 weeks late) and don't feel it's due any time. Is it common to be on and off? Why is this happening even though my weight has gone up a bit?

BMI is not an exact science. You will not (for example) go automatically from having no periods at a BMI of 17.5 to clockwork periods at a BMI of 18. The irregularity is very likely connected to being underweight (although there could be other reasons).

Yes, normal. I lost my period for about 6 months, then gained weight. My period came back but it was very irregular/very long cycles, until I was further into the healthy range of the BMI scale.

It's back to normal now that I'm healthy. Keep going :) life is so much better on the other side.

Yeah I know it's not exact, it just seems silly that now I'm eating more they stop! It makes me feel rubbish about myself 😞

Keep eating more! Your periods will become more regular and you will feel less rubbish about yourself.

My dd has had issues. We have an ED coach and I asked her. She said it is totally normal for your periods to be all over the place for a time until your body readjusts. I therefore wouldn’t worry about it op. Keep eating and your body will figure it out.
