Hi my daughter has recently been diagnosed with ARFID (Avoidant restrictive food intake disorder) we love and support her so much, but our food bills have doubled, was wondering if anyone else with a child who has ARFID gets any kind of financial help? would help enormously! thanks :-)

Have you applied for DLA for your child? I empathise, ds has ARFID and it's expensive to feed him the few foods he eats and of course he only eats specific brands so no chance of taking advantage of any offers either.

There is DLA. I get it for a child with anorexia. But DLA is for increased care needs, not for the financial impact. In our case DC needs 6 supervised meals a day then watching that they do not go to the backroom afters (risk of purging), monitoring at home to prevent them from exercising at in their room. I have no experience with Arfid so no idea what is involved. have a Google for DLA criteria to see if that is worth a shot

Op did you manage to apply for DLA? I already receive DLA for one of my twins as she is Autistic, however twin 2 is in the process of being diagnosed with ARFID and I know exactly what you mean about the cost of everything 😩 so didn't know if it was worth applying for her as well

@Twinmummyanda7yearold my daughter has suspected ARFID. She saw dietitian and we’re waiting for appointment with paediatrics now too. Did you apply for DLA? I’m wondering whether to myself. My son already receives it as he has a rare genetic disorder and a learning disability. TIA

Hi, I applied with a scan date of 8th July and still yet to hear anything 🫣 my other daughter has been receiving HRC LRM for a few years now as she has ASD so I'm used to the long waiting times but the longer it goes on the more I'm doubting we will be successful, I've just put honestly why she needs more care than another child her age etc with her eating/dietitian appointments/paediatrics and with her being underweight we have to keep a close eye on everything she eats etc/ she has been referred to cahms that sort of thing so we shall see.. I can let you know if I hear anything though if you'd like hun?

Yes please. It’s still early days for us but this has been ongoing for about 2 years now. I hope you hear something soon
