Hello all. I hope someone can offer advise?
My son has struggled with severe anorexia for over 10 years & none of the eating disorder units he's attended has made any difference. He has a terrible relationship with his therapy team, I kid you not if I wasn't seeing the awful way that this team treat their patients for myself I wouldn't believe it. I think he feels very let down by the individuals he has worked with & after years of trying to get help from them his trust has run out.
However, he still wants to try to overcome his eating disorder and has found somewhere that could potentially help him and which is in a setting where the other patients aren't all eating disordered (which he finds really stressful & triggering ) - BUT he isn't well enough to go there as his bmi is too low & he needs medical help in order to raise it & start eating a normal diet again.
Which brings me onto the question - does anyone know of somewhere that will provide medical support & help him to raise his bmi? He's in a situation where he's quite unwell but has been for so long that his body is used to it. The place he wants to go will assess him at 15 bmi - but he needs proper medical help to get to this stage. I know that the PCT referred him to a specialist eating disorder unit but they wouldn't accept him based on the longevity of his illness & that the treatment wouldn't make a difference.
Are there any medical facilities that we can either self refer or ask the gp to refer him to that will support him whilst he becomes medically safe -& so there is a seamless move to this other place he's keen on?
