Hi, Im looking to identify a Donor Profile with one of the Sperm banks - Xytex, California cryobank and not sure how much attention i should pay to the medical history? I am seeing profiled which match my criteria but then when i see multiple instances of cancer and heart issues and related deaths, i worry. Not getting clear guidance from my fertility doc either. Any advice would be welcome. I will be a single mother - fyi.

This seems surprising as the banks themselves usually screen out anyone with a family history of serious health problems, unless they’ve occurred at very advanced ages. The two banks you mention are both highly reputable. Have you tried contacting them to ask more?

Also, you’ve probably thought of this, but does your clinic have anyone like a donor co-ordinator/nurse who can advise? If you’re really stuck, you could ask them to refer you to a genetic counsellor.

Realistically, surely most people have some sort of stuff going on in their family medical history? Look at it this way, if you were trying to conceive with a partner, would you be overly worried about their grandmother having had cancer, or whatever? Probably not. So personally I was relatively chill about it.

Best of luck and I hope you find the right donor for you very soon.
