Mistake by clinic - anyone had similar? Complaint?

I'll try and keep this brief.
I'm on the midst of a 2nd (1st was unsuccessful) cycle of donor egg IVF at a Spanish clinic. We were very impressed with the clinic last year, but unfortunately no positive result.
This year it's been planned out 3 months ahead of the cycle. This is because last year it was discovered I had adenomyosis so in Feb I had an injection (a 3 month dose) to help control it ahead of a planned May transfer.
Started my meds last month, scan last week, all doing well with me and donor.
Late last week the clinic ring, to say my blood test results aren't good - I've had historic thyroid issues but have been stable for 18+ months. The blood test was done at the Spanish clinic, in February!! However noone at the clinic had reviewed it until last week!! By which time both mine and the donor's treatment was well underway.
Clinic were sheepish and only when I pushed did they admit it was an 'oversight'.
My TSH levels are very low...they asked me to have a blood test asap (I paid £225 for a test on Thursday). But before I'd even for the results (they came yesterday) the Spanish doctor cancelled the cycle.
So the last 3 months have been a waste of time and money not to mention the upset and stress of this week. The February injection was €300, blood test this week £225, scan £79. Not to mention the 3 months of awful symptoms I'd had from the injection.
The plan is now to get my thyroid under control (luckily I have private medical insurance with work so have been able to get an appointment in 10 days) . The donor is well underway so that will continue but all embryos will now be frozen (I had been going out for a fresh transfer).
I completely understand that the fresh transfer cannot happen due to my TSH levels, but i am so angry and upset that the clinic didn't review the blood test results. I had the test at the clinic 3 months ago!! Had they reviewed the results in Feb, I could have sorted the thyroid and been ok for the fresh transfer this month.
As well as the costs I've detailed above, the FET is €1000...I think this one should be free as the mistake by the clinic has stopped my chance of a fresh transfer (fresh transfer is included in the price). Plus I've now got to pay for the medication for another injection and pay a private/nurse doctor in the UK to administer that.
So a lot of stress and additional cost due to the 'oversight'. I've replied to my patient liaison lady with a brief note to say I'm very upset and any additional costs including the FET should be paid by them. I'm thinking about putting in a note formal complaint.
Sorry, the post is much longer than I intended. Has anyone had similar or got any advice to offer?
Many thanks

I haven't had any experience like this but it's clear to me that you should be given a free FET. You should pursue this. Would you mind telling which clinic it is?

Thanks for replying. Clinic is IB in Alicante. Up until this I'd been very pleased with them. The latest development is that they didn't get enough eggs from donor (they guarantee 8), so they have just started a new cycle with a new donor - I've said it has to be FET. They haven't mentioned any additional cost. The communication has been really poor in recent weeks - liaison lady off, then back, then on holiday (she was meant to give an update on new donor progress but heard nothing) . I've e mailed our previous lady, got her out of office too. Feel a bit in limbo ah the moment and want to officially complain about the missed blood test palaver but don't know who to complain to!

If they guaranteed 8 eggs but failed to deliver then there should not be any additional costs for you. Currently I am researching Spanish clinics for egg donation cycle and poor communication is coming up quite a bit.

Yes, I agree. I sort of felt that the lack of eggs gave them a bit of a 'get out of jail card' after I was saying I was going to complain - because it couldn't proceed anyway, due to lack of eggs not their mistake with the blood test. Re/the communication, I've found that I it's best to check and double check and if you're not sure on the answer, ask again in a different way. Some things can get a little lost in translation. Until the recent mistake I had been very pleased with them though. The staff are lovely, very caring and compassionate, and the clinic is immaculate.

I used IB Madrid and when I couldn't travel due to covid restrictions they wanted to freeze the eggs then create embryos when I could travel and do a fresh transfer then but I preferred a FET, i didn't want to risk travelling then having no embryos to transfer.

I found the staff very caring and the doctors very thorough, but they sometimes don't get that it's not as easy in the UK as in Spain to just get an ultrasound or a blood test at short notice.
I don't think that's unique to IB. We also has a consultation with IVI and know people who used other Spanish clinics.

I'm sorry you are going through this OP. I would indeed write a formal letter of complain, stating clearly what you expect (no fees for XYZ etc). I don't have 1st hand knowledge of Spanish clinics, but did read alot of reviews etc about egg donation there when it was suggested my own eggs were 'too old'. Best of luck wishing you a successful outcome x
