Cost of donor egg medications

Hi all, my partner and I are traveling to Spain for donor egg treatment. We are examining our budgets and trying to get to grips with the costs of it all. Has anyone undergone donor treatment in Spain and could give me a rough estimate of the cost of medication (including a mock cycle)? All the assistant and consultant have said is that it is all very ‘individual’ so can’t give me a cost for it at this early stage. Frustrating!!! Any advice would really be appreciated 💰 xx

@Francesmalin that really exciting and I hope your transfer goes well. Do you know when you will have it?
@ASGIRC Congratulations that’s amazing, you must be so happy, and 12 weeks is a great milestone.
Thank you both so much for replying to me - I wasn’t expecting to get a response tbh and so quickly too.
I had an appointment with another clinic this morning, Reprofit, but I’m still thinking Ginemed seems the easiest and most straightforward option. It is reassuring that they do so many tests, as I know what you mean with the lack of any information but I suppose that it the law. They told me that they will share the donor’s name when the child turns 18.

The 10% discount sounds good too - we’ve already spent a couple of grand going to Madrid and paying an initial consultation there and lots of tests etc.
It’s exciting but so complicated too and my head is spinning!

Meant to say also, my Ginemed consultation went well and the doctor was lovely. She suggested they could find a donor before Christmas, though there does sound to be a lot of ultrasounds required!
The other clinic said to start taking the pill and they would match me with a donor to do the transfer in November. It’s hard to work out what direction to go in and with so many decisions!

ASGIRC · 25/09/2023 13:15

With Ginemed I did my FET on a natural cycle, which did entail a lot of scans, to check the lining and ovulation.

But it was all done in 2 weeks.
I went for the 1st scan on day 9 of the cycle, then again on day 13 (having done hormone bloods the day before) and again on day 15 (hormone bloods done that day).
That was because my eggs developed late, I think she was only planning on 2 scans!
Once I got confirmation of LH surge, I took ovitrelle, started progesterone and ny transfer was a week later.

Obviously every doctor will have a different protocol, so this is just an outline of what it might look like!

Hey I am going to do it next year. I have a lot going on at the moment so not really in the right mindset. I will probs do a medicated cycle because I leave in London so I will do the scans there and then go to Portugal just for the transfer.

We had genetic tests so but they matched me within a couple of days of getting the results back.

Thank you @ASGIRC for bringing it to life for me a bit. I have to say the whole thing feels really confusing when you start to research it - yet I’m reassured by the success rates people seem to have.
@Francesmalin good idea to wait until you can give the process the focus it needs. Time isn’t on my side sadly so I feel like I’m just in a bit of a rush to get it done! I’m in the UK too, so probs will need to go with the medicated cycle as well. And I don’t think it’s the same bargain as you have had @ASGIRC , though it might be different for Donor Embryos versus Donor Eggs.

ASGIRC · 25/09/2023 22:36

@yodaandmedication Ha, no, egg donation is not quite a bargain! I just had a look at the quote I was given (as I also considered that route) and it is between 4k (for 1 embryo guaranteed) and 17k (for guaranteed pregnancy), with loads of levels in between.
They will give you a full quote if you ask them for it. Mine is in portuguese, so might not be too helpful for you!😂

We also struggled initially to decide on which clinic to go with. I had made up excel spreadsheets and was driving myself nuts!! In the end we went with what logically made sense for us - thinking about where the clinic was located/ease of flights to get there/ feelings after consultation.I didn’t want the added stress of running around the world to clinic apts. The major deciding factor for us was also the minimum 5 day blast transfer. I’ve been better prepared this time around, have certainly found my voice since our last UK IVF experience. Communication from the clinic has been key x

@yodaandmedication we went for the 8 mature oocytes package. My doctor recommended that and I think they still guarantee 2 blasto with this package.

Good luck with your decision

I have no idea if it is available to foreign people, but it is called Associação Portuguesa de Fertilidade.
It costs 35 euros a year, and you get 10% off in treatments.
Its worth trying anyway!

What is the name of the fert. association? ♡
