Finding a black or mixed race donor and cmv negative donor is so hard

Hi All,

My partner and I have been searching high and low for black, mixed race and cmv negative sperm donors as we discovered I'm cmv negative and heads up my partner is black. We are coming up with results of 0 currently which is very frustrating, incredibly stressful and I'm 36 soon to be 37 with a low reserve so time is also a factor. Does anyone have any advice on where and how to find uk compliant black and mixed race cmv negative donors please? Our clinic wont allow us a cmv positive donor and we are worried of the risks if they were to.

A friend in your position used a US sperm donor company in California , the sperm was couriered over to the UK and accepted in by the IVF clinic she was using.Google California cryobank.

It was a very easy process and they had many black sperm donors with CMV negative.

Thank you, we eventually found one at the European sperm bank thankfully. We may need to get more in the future though and last time I checked it had gotten a bit easier just not in the uk. We will definitely consider America too in future.

We used the European sperm bank. I'm not sure if it's commonly available information (must have been about 6 years ago now we first bought) but they will store some straws for you and if you don't end up using them then you only have to pay VAT, rather than if you had brought them in to the UK in which case you can't send them back.

We also ended up using a CMV positive donor after discussions with our clinic (initially they also said had to be CMV negative) as it turned out to be incredibly restrictive and we were happy the risks were pretty non existent (although obviously that's a call for you to make). That was Homerton, on the off chance you're going to the same place.
