IUI timing question (frozen donor sperm)

Hi everyone,

Hoping someone can tell me if there's any hope for this cycle.
I did a natural cycle IUI, no stims, no trigger. Here's how it went.

CD9 - Massive 18mm follicle already
CD11 - Follicle now 22mm
CD12 - 7am Neg OPK clear blue advanced ovulation (flashy smiley)
------ 10am Positive OPK clear blue advanced ovulation (solid smiley)
CD13 -11.30am - IUI using frozen donor sperm.
CD14 - 2-3am (I think this is when I actually ovulated)

The reason I'm posting is because after the insemination, the doctor said 'I just want to look at that big follicle' and he scanned me and saw that it was still there, still big and I hadn't ovulated yet. I had significant ovary pain all evening, and it ramped up to a crescendo about 2am then abruptly went away sometime between 2+3am. I believe this was when the follicle popped the egg. If I am right, am I in with a chance?

I've hear frozen sperm just doesn't last very long and ideally, you have the IUI just after ovulation with frozen sperm so the egg is there waiting for them when they're deposited. I'm worried they'll all be dead by the time my egg arrived 14-15 hours later.

What do you think? Anyone got any similar stories? Any encouragement? I'm taking progesterone and it's making me feel rubbish and I'm thinking I'm not in with a chance so I should just call it quits this cycle.

It's a BFN from me this morning. I had the IUI Wednwsday, ovulated Thursday am, so I am 10dpo. Not even a whisper of a line. With my previous pregnancy I lost, the line was there by now, so I think I am out. This morning I feel very pregnant again. Just the nipples and the camping, different from AF, but it must be the progesterone because I think if it were pregnancy I'd be testing positive by now with these symptoms. How are your lines looking @CherryBlossom100 and how are you feeling? X

So sorry @FrenchNameChange. Your not out until official test day though. Might just be a late implantation. Think it can happen from day 6-10 and just depends on the egg and its journey though the fallopian tube. After implanting, it takes a few days for hgc to rise so maybe tues/wed before a line develops.

My lines are getting darker. Still worried about a chemical due to testing so early.

FrenchNameChange · 13/03/2022 10:55

@CherryBlossom100 why do we do it to ourselves! It sounds very positive for you! Tell yourself it will be ok, and it probably will. I will do a first response in the morning and if its blank, I'll be stopping the progesterone so period can come on time. I really don't think it will develop much later than that for me. I'm now trying to decide whether to ship over my last straw of sperm and try one more round of IUI, or use it for a round of IVF to increase my chances! Sperm postage has become so expensive.

I got sperm from the clinic in the UK so cost £700. Was yours much more than that? There was only 1 match for me though as I'm covered negative. Made the choice easy though.

FrenchNameChange · 13/03/2022 11:20

Mine was €800 plus tax, and £800 to ship it! So the sperm cost about £1800 tax inclusive plus the treatment was £800. So another round of IUI will cost me another £1600 (shipment and treatment cost). Or, I can go with ABC ivf, and have IVF for a total of £3500 Inc sperm, which obviously has a much higher success rate. Trying to decide what to do. Good your donor was from the clinic, so cheaper x

Thats not bad for an ivf round.

That was meant to be cmv negative in my last post!

FrenchNameChange · 13/03/2022 11:53

Yeh I thought that wasn't too bad, and hopefully will get a couple of embryos for siblings too! The main thing that is putting me off that is having to wait a cycle before I can go ahead. Don't really want to have a month off trying. Congrats again to you! x

I definitely recommend trying the test again a bit later! I had convinced myself it didn't work (actually burst into tears on the way to the Coop which was a bit embarrassing!) so I broke and did a pregnancy test on Day 5 after IUI which was negative. Then my period still hadn't come, so I did another test on the 7th day after IUI and it was positive!
FrenchNameChange · 13/03/2022 12:38

@tigger20227 7 days post IUI is very early for a positive!! I'm 11 days post IUI and 10 DPO x

@CherryBlossom100 I brushed my teeth after I messaged on here this morning and my gums bled. This hasn't happened since I was last pregnant and was one of my first signs then, so with SMU I decided to do another test and even though It is impossible to get on a camera, I swear there is a shadow on this one where there wasn't on the one from this morning. Unless the gums is a progesterone side effect, along with the fizzy nipples and the cramps that I don't usually get, there might be a glimpse of hope.

Oh have everything crossed for you. Yeah. Not a fan of the progesterone. The bloating is terrible. I have a family party today and am sure I already look 4 months pregnant. Hopefully noone asks as not ready to say anything yet.

FrenchNameChange · 13/03/2022 13:50

I'm not bloated because I can't stop farting!! Grin Proper rip roarers!! Thank you, I'll keep you posted. I'm going to try and do a 4 hour hold about 5pm, my lines are usually darker later in the day, so let's see. Have a nice time at the party! X

Good luck!!! Star Star Star Star

My cycles are generally very short so I don't know if that's something to do with testing positive so early... though my symptoms are also really really extreme for this early (now 4.5 weeks) so I'm worried there's a hundred of them in there or something

FrenchNameChange · 13/03/2022 14:52

@tigger2022 sounds like it might be more than one! Did you have meds? And did you use frozen sperm?

OP posts:
tigger2022 · 13/03/2022 15:34

@FrenchNameChange I did, I took letrozole for 5 days after my period started, and then Ovitrelle to induce ovulation, using frozen sperm. The only thing I struggled with is I never actually got a "positive" with the CB ovulation tests or on the blood tests, so it looks like the Ovitrelle must have done the trick.

FrenchNameChange · 14/03/2022 05:15

It's a big BFN for me, confirmed on a 6 days early CB digital, which picked up my last pregnancy days before now.
Onto the next cycle. I think I'll go with IVF to improve my chances.

So sorry @FrenchNameChange
Wishing you all the luck with your ivf.

tigger2022 · 14/03/2022 20:28

Sorry to hear that Sad good luck with IVF!
