funny moment at the doctor today

I had a registration check up with the nurse at my new doctors surgery this afternoon - awkwardly funny moment when she said "and what form of contraception do you use, darling" & I had to explain that 1) I'm a lesbian 2) I'm currently TTC with a sperm donor and 3) I might actually be pregnant right now as I did an insemination last week

The nurse took it completely in her stride bless her, said "oh how exciting, I hope you are pregnant!" Then she just typed "same sex relationship" in the contraception box and asked if I've started taking folic acid yet, lol.

I often dread going to the doctors cos I've had negative & judgemental reactions before for being gay & for being a bit overweight, so it was so nice that she was so supportive.

Wishing everyone here baby dust & sympathetic healthcare professionals...

@LittleLongDog I'm single but two of my close friends want to be involved and help out, the long term plan is for the 3 of us to buy a house together and all bring up our kids together.

The morning after our first try with donor sperm something made me read the info leaflet of one of my daily medications. Not only did it have the usual 'consult your doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding' but it also mentioned 'trying to conceive'. So I thought I'd be good and ring the doctor for advice.

I spoke to him and he asked how long we'd be trying. 'Last night' says I. 'What happened last night?' - 'It was our first time with donor sperm!'

Like your nurse he took it in good form and just wished me luck with it all. As for the medicine, he rang the pharmacist, who rang the drug company, who passed it on to their medics....who said they didn't know! Hey ho!

Oh, and when I spoke to the midwife I told her how we'd conceived and told her that having DP brandishing a speculum at my nether region wasn't the most romantic of situations! She just laughed.

lol @cakeandchampagne I wish I could give you a definite update! my period was due today and hasn't started yet, I've had a tiny bit of spotting that keeps coming & going over the last 3 days... if I haven't come on properly by tomorrow night I'll be peeing on a stick Saturday morning
