Hey everyone, I’m new here Smile I’m 29 years old and it will be my first time TTC within the next few months. A close family friend has very kindly offered to be my donor and we have decided to co-parent, everything discussed and worked out. Only problem is his age - he’s 54. He’s had blood tests etc and will be having a sperm count/motility test on Thursday but I know there’s a lot more to consider when it comes to age and they can’t always test for things related to that.
I guess my question is - has anyone else used a donor this age or had a partner this age that fathered children? Do you think it’s too risky? After cryos no longer delivering to home addresses it’s my last option...
Thanks Smile

Can I ask why you feel treatment in a clinic isn't an option, if you were previously planning to use Cryos? Cryos could be quite pricy when you add everything up; IUI in a clinic probably wouldn't work out much more expensive.

Do you have the option of aiming to try naturally with a future partner though?

I suppose I would have to consider it if I really needed to but IUI would be one of the last options for me as it’s more invasive and I have no fertility issues at present, however I guess I would consider it if I really had to.
I had some news this year which made me have to think about having children soon, so waiting for a future partner unfortunately isn’t something I want to risk. And I don’t really want to go down the route of finding a donor online as I’m wary after other people’s experiences.

Dh was 50 when he fathered our now 2 year old who is perfectly strong and healthy, and I was 36 too so even more a risk I suppose.

A friend fathered his youngest at 70 something! He's a great father, even though he wasn't expecting to have young kids around at his age.

Thank you and best of luck to you op!
