Donor conception
Would a penicillin allergy put you off?
Louis2016 · 14/01/2017 04:04
If everything else was 'perfect'. I'm talking about the sperm donor having it, it isn't a massive deal is it?
Daisiesandgerberas · 14/01/2017 20:22
Allergies are hereditary, not genetic but I don't know if that's a good thing or not.
My DD is donor egg & donor sperm & guven how thorough the clinic trst for absolutely everything else including HPV, Cystic fibrosis and so on, a penicillin allergy would not break the deal for me.
Daisiesandgerberas · 14/01/2017 20:43
Just thinking....if donor has been honest about that, it's fair to say he's a good character.
NecklessMumster · 14/01/2017 20:46
I've got a penicillin allergy and it has made no difference to my life, so unless it indicates anything else, no.
ricepolo · 14/01/2017 20:47
I'm allergic to penicillin. Managed to survive 34yrs so far....
CatatonicLadybug · 14/01/2017 20:50
Another here with penicillin allergy. It's not a problem in my life as there are many other things that can be prescribed instead and it's not something I worry about whenever I go somewhere new, like I might with a severe food allergy. (DS has no penicillin allergy thus far and does have a significant food allergy, which is way more effort than asking for a different antibiotic when I'm ill.)
Wouldn't bother me at all on a donor card. Good luck!
JennyOnAPlate · 14/01/2017 20:51
I'm allergic to penicillin too and it's never caused me any issues. There are other antibiotics.
ChilliMum · 14/01/2017 20:54
At least you are forewarned and it doesnt necessarily follow that dc will have it. Dh has a penicillin allergy. Neither of the dc have it
McWeedie · 14/01/2017 21:26
My ex dh has a penicillin allergy as do both my DC, it hasn't really been an issue, just have to use different anti biotics
MrsBungle · 14/01/2017 21:28
My 7 year old dd is allergic to penicillin. It's caused no issues at all except Needing a different antibiotic on the one occasion she had a toe infection.
StillRunningWithScissors · 14/01/2017 21:29
My allergy to penicillin was due to repeated use (had been prescribed it five times in about ten/twelve weeks). Up until the last course, I had been fine having it throughout childhood.
So, might be a developed allergy as well.
BikeRunSki · 14/01/2017 21:36
A lot of people are allergic to penicillin, but there are a lot of other antibiotics to chose from now. It has not had a nagative impact on my DSis or DS.
Would you be put off having a child with a "real life" man who was allergic to penicillin if everything else was perfect?
reallyanotherone · 14/01/2017 21:37
Allergies are hereditary, not genetic
Eh? Hereditary and genetic are the same thing. Physical traits are inherited through genes.
