How to ask for flexible working?

Hi, i would love some advice please. When applying for an NHS job at what point do you ask for a flexible workinf request? If I ask about it at interview would this put them off selecting me as a candidate? Basically the job is advertised as FT and I wanted to see id either condensed hours or 4 days PT would be possible. Paying 5 days of nursery/wraparoind would take up most of my FT wage.

What sort of job is it? Is it feasible for them to condense it to four days such as admin, or is it customer facing when they want to offer a service five days a week?

it may influence the likelihood of it being granted, and how you approach it.

Have they offered the role in writing f?

You can discuss flexibility at the offer stage but a flexible working request (statutory) applies from day 1.

One would hope they would discuss it now without it needing to be a statutory request but it really depends on the manager etc.

Hi, I haven't actually been offered the role yet My interview is nest week and I am unsure whether to mention it at interview or wait until they send a conditional offer (if I even get that far). My worry is that if I mention it at interview they would go with another candidate who is happy to work 5 days.

All you can do is ask if it's a possibility but don't say it's a deal breaker unless it is.

Ask when offered the role. Thank them and say you’d love to accept but will need to condense to a 4 days – ball is in their court.

I interview for the NHS and I always want people to ask at interview. Its a right ballache once they are in post asking for set days or part time. It doesn't affect my decision but it allows me to plan or even recruit someone else at the same time to make 1 WTE or a job share

I would ask at the interview
