Resigned my job yesterday

I’ve name changed, no one at work knows yet and don’t want this linked to my other name.

I resigned my Band 7 Ward Manager position with nothing to go to. It’s been destroying me for a while and I decided enough was enough.

I want to go back down to clinical role at Band 6. I want to be able to use leave without knowing all my work is waiting for me, relax at weekends.

I know some people love management but it’s not for me. I feel liberated, just a shame my notice period is 3 months🤪

That’s it, wanted to share it with someone seeing as I can’t say anything st work yet😀

Good luck. I don't know how ward mangers do it. My wonderful manager is currently running two wards, as the other one is off with stress. I did a band 6 and hated it, so stepped back to a 5. So much happier.

Thanks @Toddlerteaplease feels like a huge weight has been lifted!

I don’t know how people do it, I’ve done 2.5 years and it’s the worst job I’ve ever had.

I am hoping dropping back to band 6 will do it for me😫 I’m mental health so it’s slightly different but no less challenging I imagine🤪

Good for you! You will find something else, and there's no shame in leaving management where you are totally under appreciated and have to be constantly running just to keep still.
There's nothing like the feeling of slapping your resignation letter down on a desk and then moonwalking out of the ward like an absolute boss!

ChocHotolate · 06/08/2024 19:10

I hear you. I am band 7 but 100% clinical in an ACP role. Could you look for ACP training posts maybe?

dicdicnurse · 06/08/2024 19:13

Omg I wish I was as brave as you! I'm a ward manager and it's sucking the soul out of me. I miss the flexibility of shifts, I miss patient contact and I'm sick of being asked to do more with less.
Band 7 is a horrible role, pushed up from the team below who want you to advocate for them, pushed down from above by those who want you to be their mouthpiece. No enhancements so you get paid less than the clinical band 6's. Angry

I got paid less as a band 6, than I did as a 5. I had to do agency to get some extra money.

Feel like I might know you @dicdicnurse , your post resonates so much, it’s like I work with you🤣

It genuinely is the worst job ever, there is so much scrutiny and as you say, you get pushed from above and below!

I’m fortunate in that I’m older and if I didn’t find anything, I could manage with bank work but I have applied for a band 6, something very different to what I am doing so fingers crossed.

I hope you get out one day if that’s what you want💐

I came as close to a complete breakdown as I ever have last week and that was the push I needed!

I’m too old to retrain🤣

Happy to go back down to a 6, focus on clinical duties. With shift work and enhancements, I’ll be better off the I am now🤷‍♀️

That’s shocking!

I was a top band 6 doing shifts so had no real pay increase when I went to a 7 and due to doing 9-5, I couldn’t pick up bank so hoping to go back to shift work and the option for bank shifts!

Golly, nursing is tough!!

I am really lucky that we have a fantastic manager and a great team. Paediatrics is probably a bit less stressful than adult land. I've been a band five for 20 years, except for the secondment to a 6. And very happy to stay as one!

VividQuoter · 06/08/2024 19:57

Enjoy the peace and newly found freedom. I do enjoy mine even though my job was just cleaning and hospitality

A good manager and great team is where it’s at really! Nursing is so tough, having a good team around you is everything! It’s refreshing to hear someone who is happy at band 5, it’s rare in mental health nursing! I was a band 5 for 16 years and very happy with it😊

I must admit my ward is an amazing team and if I could go back down within my own team I would, but it wouldn’t be fair to whoever comes in and we are fully staffed for the first time so no job for me🤣 Should have left a little band 6 job open for me😜

Don't blame you. I am Band 7 but in a 100% clinical role. Had a chance last year to go for a Band 8 managing our team and there wasn't a chance in hell I'd have gone for it. The stress that the in-post manager has is ridiculous and I am totally uninterested in it!

Advent0range · 09/11/2024 18:29

I did the same, am now 100% clinical in a bank role in my local private hospital. Paid much the same without antisocial hours! Really enjoying it for now.
