Think about your leadership style. Nhs usually like transformation but sometimes
Need a firmer style to get projects completed.

Talk about any changes you've made and how you managed this.

Any ideas service improve my ideas you may have, patient centred improvement ideas might be good.

Managing staff conflict using the values.

Leading teams in current climate (staffing, morale, clinical challenges, waiting lists, budget cuts etc) especially in mental
health could be very topical.

What will your ops role be v strategic manager. Some 8as manage 80
Staff v some who may manage 1 v strategic/projects role

Think about your real term wage as an 8a. It is not really much more than top of a 7 when you factor pension %rises so you have to really want it for the future and development opportunities!

Thank You for replies, yes I’m top B7 have been for years, I am looking for ways to develop and move up
OK so i have been thinking
managing difficult situations
implementing change
change management, we are being told about community transformation, new ways working etc
Leadership styles hmm I hope collaborative and wanting to share a vision of how a good team functions?
what about DTOC, bed pressures etc shall I practise that?

I would definitely think about workforce issues and solutions. What recruitment initiatives is the organisation involved in, and more importantly what are they doing to retain staff?

An understanding of the role of community in admissions avoidance, facilitating discharges is helpful, considering the impact on acute bed capacity with dtocs etc. Read the latest cqc report. What areas were identified as requiring improvement (if any) and how would you address them? What examples can you share of working effectively in a multi professional team?

If you haven't already, call the recruiting manager to ask them about the role, priorities and challenges, vision for the service, what they are looking for in a manager, team dynamics. At 8a I would always expect a motivated applicant to contact the RM.

Good luck!

my band 8 a interview was all about management ( in a mental health trust)
So CQC prep , data and its implications, QI projects , policy knowledge eg sickness absence stuff. Nothing clinical at all !! I really struggled but had been in the role for quite a while so did get the job but it was totally management focused
Good luck it's a whole new ball game

Hi,

I realise this was a while ago but can you remember any of the questions? I have community MH 8A interview soon and am trying to do as much prep as I can.

Thanks
