Desogestrel, pros and cons please

Hello,

I've been prescribed Desogestrel as a treatment to very heavy bleeding. I'd like to hear from anyone who took it for this purpose and not as birth control. How long does it take to start working, side effects, what happened when you stopped it, etc. Also, are there any natural alternatives please?

Desogestrel as in the mini pill?
It can stop periods but in some women it can cause erratic bleeding. You'd just have to try it and see

I adore it. Haven't had a period in 5 years.

Hi @Hangingover, do you take it as a birth control or to treat bleeding?

I took it as birth control and it did stop my periods for several years. I then had the mirena coil and that also stopped them

I took it to treat PCOS rather than heavy bleeding and it did cause random bleeding for me as pp said. I came off it though because it killed my sex drive which I think was one of the most common side effects.

Hi @PattyPan, for how long did you take it and except for the side effects you mentioned, did it cause others like mood swings, depression, etc.? Also, did you come off it easily?

@dementedpixie thx for sharing. To be honest I like my periods, the normal ones, like they used to be.

@Sakuratu I only took it for 3 months so came off it easily. No other side effects but 3 months of no sex drive was enough 😂

I have been on it for one week and my hair is falling out I am so worried and think I will just stop tomorrow
