Just posting for understanding really.
I work as an aged care enrolled nurse. Last night two staff members did not come to work, leaving us with two staff doing long shift and two “floaters” who do 4 hour shifts covering breaks and resident meal times.Both are not med competent, leaving me to administer medication to 30 residents on two separate rounds, one at dinner, one at bedtime.
We had one staff member upstairs and I was down stairs. In my section I had one who has MND so completely incapable of any movement, one with distended bowel, one having a psychcotic episode and one who was unconscious due to stroke.
I was completely overwhelmed, somehow managed to get it all done but came home and could not unwind and then had dreams about the residents and woke up crying.
I love my job but some days the stress is unbearable. I care for my residents and I wish we had more staff to care for them properly.
Not looking for answers, I just know someone here would understand.
