Hello
How is everyone?

OP posts:

@Nemesia1264 I have just finished second year. I am used to lots more patient contact though because I work part time in a busy NHS practice. I am really put off by that; hence looking into something like pathology.

The thing is I am not all that academically gifted; I can pass exams but I won’t realistically be getting any distinctions or awards. I was under the impression you need to really stand out at undergraduate level to be in with a chance of getting into specialist training.

Possibly there is competition for the more popular specialisms like restorative/ orthodontics; less so for Special Care, Paediatrics etc. The latter aren't big private earners, also remember that the vast majority of dentists work within the GDS for their entire career.
Have you thought about the CDS? You will need some post qualification GDS experience.

@Nemesia1264 no I don’t actually know much about the CDS; But I’m disheartened by this thread saying jobs in it are hard to come by!

I am really drawn to something like oral medicine/pathology, I don’t really know if I see myself in a practice.

How would you all say the profession has changed since you completed your training?

I'm not involved in dentistry but came across an interesting read about orthoTROPICS and would be interested to know dentist etc opinion on this... mewing, results etc.
