How often does ur ex P/DH “speak” to the kids in between actual visits

me and ex dh split up just over 2 years ago now, divorced last year. He now lives a substantial distance away with me and his kids and only sees the kids every 3/4 weeks for 24 hours and FaceTimes them once a week. The kids are 8 and 10.

my question is… how much contact does ur ex have with his kids in between physically seeing them?

I don’t feel like a FaceTime once a week is enough for him to truly know his kids… at the same time I don’t particularly want him hovering in the background on a FaceTime call every night 🤷‍♀️ so I’m not really sure what the “right” answer is but just curious how others work this kind of contact…..

I guess as the kids get older the contact will become less formal anyway with texting/WhatsApp etc. he does WhatsApp the 10yo sometimes but he doesn’t really engage back.

its court ordered that he doesn’t call unless DC asks to speak to him (they don’t)

My children are a lot younger (under 5). They see ex-DH every other weekend.

He occasionally asks to FaceTime them during the week, but mostly he doesn’t speak to them between visits

Yeah it’s tricky depending on their ages…. Under 5’s aren’t great at FaceTiming so I kind of get that

My DH's exwife wouldn't let them speak to the kids on 'her' time so it was never, until they got their own phones at around 11. She didn't speak to them when they were with us either (50% of the week), her choice because she is oddly controlling, some kind of weird power/punishment but it really only affected the kids. They exchange messages mostly now.
