What has your partner said/done after you've told him you want to separate? Fairly sure this is not unique, but my H has basically acted as though the conversation hasn't happened!!!! Not for the first time a conversation like this has been ignored, either..
I know he won't want to move out; though he has options in terms of family-owned rentals. Also-he's barely been present in our 4 childrens' lives & travels lots with work. So out of necessity, I operate as though I'm a single mum 80% of the time anyway!
It's a stressful time for both of us for a number of other reasons, but I'm 100% sure I don't want to continue living with him partly due to how he handles his stress/his lack of empathy & support for me.
Not sure how to proceed TBH...interested to hear others' stories....

  1. Ignored me - assumed it would all come to nothing
  2. Didn't make any comment when I got my new job 80 miles away and started looking for a flat for me & ds, aged 2.
  3. Refused to discuss it, assumed I wasn't serious
  4. Stood and watched as I packed the car and left
  5. Unleashed a torrent of fury by email, threatening to take ds away, he'd never pay a penny in child support, I'd be forced into crawling back to him, I'd never cope on my own, I was useless, stupid, ignorant, frigid. No-one would ever want me etc, etc.
  6. 15 years later, having bought us a home, raised ds, maintained my career etc, ds is off to uni and ex has said now he's 18, ds not his problem, so no financial support for ds at all. I'll cover the costs, I refuse to have ds disadvantaged because I chose such a bad father for my child.
  7. Ex is still simmering furious that I dared to leave & live happily outside his control. Really not healthy.
