Be warned it costs money is all I know!

Can do it on line.. cheap as chips.

If you want to go back to your maiden name you just do it. Use your birth certificate and change things.

@Haggisfish3 To ‘change’ your name to something completely different is free. It doesn’t cost anything.

Change passport, the driving licence and then banks and then the rest. You will have to show birth, marriage certs and Decree absolute. Just work through a list.

Well, it’s free, not cheap.

You don't need a deed poll, no matter what some companies tell you.

Your birth certificate and marriage certificate should be plenty. Some will ask for your divorce as well.

I found it easier to start with driving license and passport (mine had just run out) and then used them as ID for other places.

Isn’t it the same as marriage? Show birth/divorce certs?

makes me so glad I have never changed my name!

PrancingBean · 21/08/2025 14:39

I haven’t paid anything to change mine. Did my bank account by going in with decree absolute. Driving licence needed birth certificate and decree absolute and was free. The only thing I’ll pay for is my passport but I’ll carry on travelling in my married name until it needs renewing. Other than that, just started using my pre-married name.

This. I got divorced in March and have been slowly chipping away at it since then. Some things were very easy to do - MHRC, NHS - others such as banks needed more proof of change. I did my driver's licence first as that's my main form of ID.
