Hi all. I’ve finally got to an agreement with ex about division of finances. He is paying a small lump sum and doesn’t want to pay until the final order is through. I was wondering if this is normal or whether the consent order/court usually provides a deadline? What happened in your case?

Thank you!

My solicitor advised me as the paying party not to pay until the final order came through and then there was 28 days to pay once it came through

I was tols the same. Don't pay anything until the judge agrees to the split.

He isn’t required to pay until the order is finalised. There could be changes if the judge feels it’s unfair for any reason so why would he? Myself and exH both went to court and explained to the judge that we’d agreed the settlement jointly and he still checked that I’d had proper legal advice as I wasn’t going after his pension. He only agreed when I confirmed it was my choice. Once we both received the paperwork he paid a small lump sum to me.
