Divorcing using maiden name

The circumstances of our divorce are horrible. I dont want to use my married name when can I go back to using my maiden name. Is it possible to change it now on bills etc and revert pre divorce.

@Bogfaerie im with Monzo and did it all online. They were fine with the unenrolled deed poll. DVLA were fine - got a new driving licence within 2weeks or so and now I have photo id in my new/old name. I have some flights booked in my marital name so will wait until after those to change my passport. But yes, new bank cards etc within days. It’s not as bad as you may think, and not a huge administrative burden. And it gives you a bit of you back, and some control in a chaotic time. Wishing you well

@MamaAndTheSofa
I have posted a similar common sense approach on threads like these and always am bombarded with the PPs coming out with mad lists of legal hoops to jump through.
As you say, you can use any name you wish as long as not for fraudulent purposes.
I have some things in my married name, some in maiden; never had to prove anything to anyone!

Yep! I mean, I'm sure it's more complicated in some circumstances, like if you're in MI5 or something, but for ordinary people it's really not!

And I'm always perplexed by how many people think they have to take their husband's name when they get married!

You can revert back to using your maiden name whenever you wish. I did it after my divorce to keep it simple - downloaded and printed a deed poll or 3 for free from somewhere online, signed to say that I would use my maiden name from X date and got it witnessed. I then used this and a mix of original/copies of birth certificate and wedding certificate as needed to change my name on bank accounts, passport, driving license etc. It was time consuming but cathartic to get it done.

Does anybody know if you remarry, what name has to be said when reading vows? I still haven't changed back to my maiden name after divorcing, but are starting to use it more and more. I don't think of myself with the married surname and I really hate the odd instance where I have to use it.

If I remarry, can I request vows to use my maiden name rather than my (was) married name or would I need to change it legally?

I'm currently holding off on the legal name change due to travel reasons- I've been told it's easier leaving the country with the kids on holiday when our surnames match. Not sure how much truth there is to this?

I changed my name back to my maiden name as soon as we split. I love in Scotland though so I'm not sure if the rules are different. I set up a new bank account and used my maiden name. I told everyone what my name would be. I seem to remember I had to let some people see my birth certificate and, once divorced, my divorce papers.

I separated from ExH, went back to maiden name before divorce. Married DH many years later.

Maiden name was used in vows. @FuzzyPenguin27

Paid about £30 for deed poll, had several certified copies, managed to change passports and banks without issue.

DD changed her first name, went with a different company this time. Changed driving license without issue, haven’t yet done the bank.

Sorry I didn’t read properly!

I kept married name on passport until it expired, so can’t help with the travel.

I changed name by deed poll and remarried with maiden name in vows. This can be done free of charge though.
