Can I divorce in UK

If the marriage was in a different country?

I just realised now that different rules might apply… anyone here been in this position?

Yes, we live in the Uk and been here for 18 years, and have a joint mortgage.

Then yes, because it is your habitual country of residence. I suggest you file here asap because then it will take place here according to UK divorce law, despite the marriage taking place abroad.
