I'm trying to get a consent order started and then alongside that change of ownership from family home from joint owner to single owner (I'm buying stbx out). So I need one solicitor for the consent order and then another for the conveyancing. I had put aside money for the consent order but now I'm finding that changing ownership is going to cost in excess of £1000! I'm not borrowing more money (my parents are paying ex off), I'm not extending the term or anything to do with the mortgage. Just taking exs name off. Should it really be costing this much? I've had a few quotes now and they're all around the £1000 mark and I keep thinking they're misunderstanding what I'm asking - eg. they a couple have mentioned stamp duty but there won't be any. Any advice really. Like should it really cost £295 for the land registry fee alone? This is on top of the £1000 for conveyancing fees. Any advice welcome. Thank you.
