When to tell school about divorce

We have 2 DC (6 and 8) and in final stages of divorce.

Did you tell the teachers before or after you told the children? Did you ask the teachers when the best time (school year-wise) is to tell children? Or did you tell the children first, then the teachers after?

we told the children first. We told them on a Friday evening at the start of a half term so they had a week or so to deal with the initial emotions without school to deal with also. I told school the day before they returned so they could keep an eye out, the teachers were fab! Very understanding and updated me after about 3 days. I also took two weeks stress leave to be there before and after school to help them in any way needed as I work full time.

Take all the time you need @Silv321 and also one of my dc had an emotional wobble after about 6months so just be prepared for that possibility and make sure you are around to help them feel safe and loved. That’s all they need, that and to be listened to regarding their fears and concerns.
