Divorce - high or low on value of house?

Ex and I are finally divorcing. We've both had three estate agents round but led to different ideas on what the house is worth. Neither of us can afford mortgage alone so its needs to be sold.

As a SAHM, should I be pushing for a higher value, or lower value to give bigger share of equity?

As a sahm how will you get a mortgage?

arethereanyleftatall · 30/08/2024 23:14

Eh? Surely it's in both your interests, whatever the split or situation, that you get the largest amount that is possible for the house?

I would go with the middle one. Price it too high you will get less interest, too low and you might lose out.

Well a house is only worth what someone prepared to pay

are you looking to sell it or for him to buy you out or stay there?

tiu can look on rightMove/zoopla etc to see what houses have actually sold for and get a good indication on yours

I would have thought if you’re selling you aim for as much as possible. If it’s for one to buy out then get a valuation eg from mortgage lender

If you are selling go with one with the better record of sales. Look at recent sales and see if it is over valued or not.

As above. If you’re selling it’s in both your interests to get the maximum price possible. But going with the agent who suggests the highest price isn’t necessarily the way to do this. Go with the agent who seems most competent and has a good local track record, rather than the one who suggests the highest price.

Go somewhere in the middle so it actually sells.
