Advice needed on DA support /child protection in France

Hi there I’m really worried about a family member living in France who is in an abusive relationship with small children who are also experiencing abuse. The family member is quite disempowered. Can anyone tell me how child protection/domestic abuse support works in France? The family member has been told they can’t leave their family home with the child as this would be seen as kidnap? The abusive partner is a native French speaker so much better able to negotiate the professionals etc and is very plausible. Limited resources available to pay a solicitor. The family member has taken French citizenship so doesn’t have access to British consular support. Thanks in advance!

There is a charity called women for women in France that is very similar to WA in the UK and I believe has support for non Fremch speakers. Also CDIFF, which gives free advice. Is the family member able to make to these connections herself? Afaik there is a rule about leaving the home being classed as abandonment but the two groups I mentioned above have plenty of experience in supporting women through the complicated legal system. I can get links if you need them.

Your family member could try this first:

A friend of mine had a similar issue but in Germany. I would assume the rules aren't that different, since both are EU countries. She took her kids to a women's refuge and then got a solicitor involved. At least in Germany, they will help with translators, if needed.
It was important that she had made a police report. Taking the kids out of the house was then not "kidnapping". Social services are the way to go here, since it is meant to protect the children. There should be something similar in place in France.

She couldn't take the kids out of the country. That would have been kidnapping. Just taking them out of an abusive home is not.

Good luck.
