It’s so weird - difficult to tell if it’s motherhood, marriage break up or moving to a new town in the West Country (or all of the above) - but I’ve completely forgotten how to talk to people, has anyone found this? 5yo DD started school in sept (their dad has them on Saturdays in London so I do all the school stuff) - and school parents have been so nice and friendly, especially given I’m one of the only single mums here, but I have totally forgotten how to talk to anyone in a ‘light’ way - I go straight to trauma and oversharing 😂 trying to study people to see how they do ‘small talk’ but I’m so bad at it now and I’m worried it’s affecting DD on play dates. Anyone else have this problem? How to overcome it??

Oh gosh! This is me too! I don't know what to say, then share too much or too little. My knowledge is completely outdated in terms of conversation starters; events, TV shows, films, books etc as cannot focus long enough to finish any. I'm not even at the school gate so can't even catch any school gossip. I'm trying to dive straight in with playdates, I figure with practice I will improve. I wasn't allowed to do playdates when with H, so want to make up for lost time. I also see them as an opportunity to make some friends. Do you take something with you? For the kids? What about siblings, are they normally accepted? How far in advance are they acceptable to schedule? I am working it out slowly!
