Counselling or mediation

Hi everyone, I'm in the first stage of the divorce application process. Still living with DH as it's been a recent decision to divorce. We are mostly managing to be amicable but at times there are arguments and some cross words, especially when discussing the big stuff like children and finances. We are going to have some counselling in the hope that we can communicate better and be able to discuss the important decisions without arguing. Are we doing the right thing going to counselling first or would we be better going straight for meditation?

Thank you

The counselling is definitely worthwhile if you need to change behaviour and responses. It won’t address the negotiation just make you more equipped to deal with it and to recognise that the other party has feelings and needs.

The other area that counselling can help with is helping you deal with lawyers and the courts. Learning to make peace with taking steps backwards financially and learning to co parent.
