When can I claim universal credit as a single person?

Divorce application is in. We are living in the same house but sleeping in separate rooms. We are both still providing care for the children.
we are not really speaking to each other but try to remain civil and have essential conversations in front of the children.
Currently we get tax credits paid into my account. I work, I pay all the bills and 90% of stuff the kids need. Ex works very part time and has very low income but more than what he would get as single person on UC.
I really want to cut all financial ties. I don’t want to be in a joint claim for any benefits. I don’t want anything joint with him.
When can close the tax credit claim and open a claim as a single parent? I will be resident parent when we split but I don’t know how long that is going to take (could be a very long time). Should we be sharing a benefit claim as we both still currently look after the children even though I pay for everything that they need?
Is it financial abuse if I close the joint claim because he has a low income (he could improve it but chooses not to).
don’t want to do anything that can be considered illegal or immoral.

Where I have written that I will be resident parent when we split, I mean when we are able to move into separate homes. We are already split in a relationship sense.
