Where did you live after your marriage broke up?

Just wanting to know where you lived when your marriage broke up?

Did you stay in the family home? Or go into Council Housing or private rent or did you get a solo mortgage and buy your own place? And did you have children?

For context, I'm early 40s and in private rent, with a young child and just exploring my options and seeing what other women have done.
I have also put this on the chat thread for more traffic. Thanks in advance.

Nested kids then stayed first with family, then had a rental flat, then stayed with partner. If ally agreed to sell and just waiting to complete on the purchase of my new place. I would have moved to sell up and buy as the first step but it’s taken a few years.

Stayed in family home then moved in with new dp a year later and exh moved back in, didn't sell home until kids finished university by arrangement (already at university when I moved away). What is right depends on stage of life, income, if you are 50/50, if you are amicable etc so many variables. Council housing however is the least likely outcome as it's in short supply

Who's name is the house in?

Can you afford to rent alone?

Not going to lie;getting a council/housing association house is really hard and in some cases impossible.

My nieces mum was forced out of her council house by her ex husband (joint tenancy);he literally moved in his mistress and her child into the house whilst she was in hospital with complications from her pregnancy with their child.

He was also abusive to her;she had to take her 3 kids and move into her parents home.Even though he was abusive and had moved his mistress in the council still expected her to live there and refused to put her into the housing list.

The mistress had his baby 10.5 months after my nieces mum left him.

Stayed in the house until it was sold, moved in with DM until I bought a place. No children involved.

3 young children

Divorce agreement gives me 3 years to pay him "his" share. At that point I'll remortgage and remove his name from the house. I'll likely stay here
