Has anybody had a contested divorce in Ireland? Worrying about cost.

I've been separated for over a year. Definitely no hope of reconciliation. I went to see a solicitor and was told it could cost me between €10,000 and €15,000 to go to court. I eventually persuaded exH to go to mediation but he refused to go back after the first session as the mediator pointed out that his expectations are totally unrealistic.

Currently exH pays €50 a week maintenance for our teenage DC still in secondary school. We also have a DC who took a year out after secondary school but who's starting university in September. ExH doesn't contribute for this DC. I have enough savings to pay college fees for both DC and a tiny bit left for emergencies. I work full time and can support myself and the DC but am saving almost nothing.

ExH earns almost double what I do and has considerable savings and investments. I know that I will probably have to go through the courts eventually but am worried about spending savings on legal fees and not having enough for university fees if ExH makes a divorce difficult, which he has threatened to do.

Has anybody been through the court system in Ireland? It's all very daunting.
