Child arrangements after 16

Hi all am in the process of arranging / agreeing child arrangements with my ex . I was wondering what generally happens when a child reaches 16/ 18 +So they decide who they want to live with? Any experiences welcome ! Ex is under the impression any arrangement would extend later into adulthood but I would imagine this would depend on DC?

If there's a court order in place it expires at 16 - informal arrangements can still be agreed between you providing the child agrees, but at that age they tend to vote with their feet.
