Almost done- conveyancing and legal charge - any way to reduce cost?

We have had Comsent Order agreed and.
now to let the land registry know about the change in ownership and legal charge and for XH to release me from mortgage.
He is only now getting quotes for the conveyancing which are coming in at well over £1000!
Is there any way around this? Should we be sharing this or should he pay? (He gets to ‘keep house’ for the time being)

That sounds about right cost wise - I had a quote to remove STBEXH from the mortgage of £1k-£1.5k depending on amount of searches etc a couple of weeks ago. I'm making him pay as the divorce is being driven by him and costs will be deducted from the equity release/transfer

I had accepted xDH and myself would have the conveyancing bill to pay. Now his conveyancer is asking who I have instructed to act for me!
Do we need another conveyancer, and another bill to pay, just to enact what the courts have signed off? I will be broke if so!

When I did transfer of equity I only paid for mine legal costs which were half the figure you are quoting. Ex didn’t take legal advice. I just paid for my costs we never split it as they were acting for me not him. My solicitor just sent him paperwork for what we agreed. Much less costly and kept it amicable.

Thanks for that. We are totally in agreement and it’s all laid out in the court documents, so really don’t see why we’d have to have two.
We only needed one to get divorced!
