Benefits when he hasn't moved out yet?

Hi, so husband and I are separating. Thing is he can't really move out yet. He's not communicating just yet about finances. I am self-employed making only a few hundred each month.

He's been paying rent and bills on my tenancy, house association.

I'm just wondering if there is knowledge here on whether it's worth me doing a UC claim as yet. I am seeking more work of course but limited due to school run.

thanks for any heads up. I have no assets, just my social home which he will leave, at some point, but easier said than done really. I'm not kicking him out or anything, he's not violent. No child access issues, that will be amicable.

You are able to claim universal credit if you live in the same house as long as you are living separate lives. You must not share a bedroom, must cook separately, do not share any food, finances must be separate, each do your own washing & cleaning, do not socialise together etc.

Erm how exactly are they going to know?

OP as long as you can show you are separated financially then yes you can claim UC. I did and at no point was I told we had to cook and eat separately or all the other crap as the above poster seems to believe.

UC do not expect this to be a long term situation but do understand separated couples sometimes do still need to share a home for a time but no longer share finances.
If you want housing costs this will only be paid at 50% of your rent and you will only receive the personal allowance as a single person.

Schools do after school and wrap around so school run doesn’t have to be a barrier
