How to find out what ex earns?

My friend is getting divorced from her 'D'H

This is a good thing. He is an unsupportive prat - always has been and has admitted an affair.

He wants to get divorced' without lawyers and amicably - of course he does! They have 2 primary aged DC. She is a SAHM.

He has worked for years abroad - working for 6 weeks then back for 2 weeks

My friend has never had access to his bank accounts or wage slips. He is not disclosing them. He could have bank accounts off shore. How does she find out what he earns and where his money is? Would she have to hire some kind of detective?

Any practical advice would be appreciated

If he is employed and your friend puts in a case through CMS they can access his earnings through HMRC and you can have the child maintenance taken straight from his wages. (There are a couple of options on CMS to get the money owed, it's easy to find on the website).

If he is self employed and registered with companies house you can look him up and see when accounts were last filed.

Finally if he is self employed but not on companies house CMS can still see what they've earnt from their tax return (my ex needed reminding of this when he went self employed and after telling him I can still find out what he earns if I went through them was enough to make the smug twat send me a copy of his tax return, because he seems terrified of them being involved for some reason).

Hope that helps - x

Sorry forgot to add but not that useful anyway - not sure what you'd do if he has off shore accounts, hopefully someone will come along who knows.

I have no idea how divorces work but if your friend has a solicitor I'm sure they'd know a way of finding out what the ex has money wise x

She needs to see a solicitor. If he doesn’t wa t to go to court he needs to be transparent
if he’s not transparent she will need to go through legal
process and he’ll be required to disclose through that process

she also needs to think about a return to work ….

If she is getting divorced in England there needs to be financial disclosure to get a consent order. She needs to speak to a solicitor who specialises in family law as they will have come across this before.

My ex worked abroad and it was a pain as payslips etc needed to be translated but we got there in the end.

Your friend also needs to get a job.

Hi - thanks for your responses.

She is definitely going to see a solicitor.

She is getting divorced in England and has already asked for financial disclosures. It's the potential 'off-shore' earnings that she wants to get sight of.

She knows she needs to go back to work
