Leaving family home before financial agreement made.

I’m in the process of divorcing - it’s already taken months and months, and life at home is awful. Stbx won’t agree on a financial agreement for sharing equity, pensions etc and it’s looking as if it could take many more months.

I have a very low income. If I were to move out of the family home and rent somewhere for me and the children, would I be entitled to benefits to help with rent etc? I’d obviously have equity in the marital home, but it’s not available till stbx stops being an arse and agrees to a split in finances.

Don’t do it. That was the general advice given to me. Agree to put the house up for sale. Believe it undermines you if you effectively make yourself homeless. Pretty sure you can get some help from uc.

Don't move out. The person still in the home has all the power. They will change the locks and get a lower valuation of the house than you are expecting so you get less equity.
I'm speaking from recent experience and moving out was a massive mistake.
