I've recently became single after 15 years and 2 kids. I'm trying to think of things that I should do, to cheer myself up/have fun/find out who I am without my ex and set myself up for the future.... what would/did you do first (with limited funds)?

Get a spa membership. Start dating. Get a pet. Long walks by myself. Join online yoga classes. Join the WI, meet up, anything you can to meet new friends. Can confirm 3 years on, all of the above saved my sanity.

Join a walking group, see what meetup groups there are around, take dance classes, self defence classes, get fit, go to talks and lectures. Basically explore and indulge my interests, meet lots of new people and hopefully make new friends. I might date.

All great ideas! So far I've been shopping for a bit of a wardrobe upgrade. I'm planning some nights out. I'm going to take up an exercise class. Start journaling.

Does anyone have any good books to help me through, any help type books?

Meet ups have been dreadful for me. I loved the idea but I am in the south east and nearly all of the groups that appealed to me were London (so cost in time and travel). I have managed about 3 meet ups in 4 years! Many of the walking type groups would often be other side of London so just not practical. The only local one would meet up in a cheap pub/restaurant for members birthdays. I wasnt finding the time back then to even see my proper friends for birthdays. The thought of going to a cheap pub to celebrate a stranger's birthday was totally unappealing!! I am not sure it works that well outside metropolitan areas.
