Child benefit - need to move from joint account to mine

How do I get CB paid into my own account rather than our joint account? I googled and it led me to the 'Government Gateway' where I was asked to create an account and identify myself. I got as far as the ID bit, but don't have any documents on me so I closed it down. Is this the process you have to use to do this?

The reason is, I am applying to take over our mortgage and need to show a bank statement with my salary and CB so they can approve it. Also, my own bank account is in my maiden name, whereas the joint account is in my married name. Does that make it more complicated?

I'd just write a letter with your CB number on saying please note updated bank details.

Thanks @doradoo Where do I find this number? I don't think I've had any letter or email with the account number - would it be on a bank statement?

You must have had a letter at some point.... Check the bank statement it may be on there, or ring them and try and do it over the phone?

You can just call them. I did the same. Or update your bank details online.

It’s very straightforward.
